Russell Martin leaves the position of head coach of Rangers Getty Andrew Milligan/PA WireThe 39-year-old Russell left the club after 123 days in office.
In the club's statement, it is said:
“The club confirms that it has terminated the contract with head coach Russell Martin. While all transfer periods take some time, the results do not meet the club's expectations.”It was also revealed that assistant coach Matt Hill and first-team coach Mike Williamson will also leave their positions.
The management expressed gratitude to Martin and his team for their efforts and wished them success in the future. Martin was appointed to the position in June this year on a three-year contract, but has now become the shortest-serving permanent manager in the club's history.
The club chairman, Andrew Cavanagh, attempted to cope with the pressure from fans but decided that it could not continue this way. Fans expressed their satisfaction with Martin's dismissal as they had long called for him to leave.
After the match with Falkirk, the former Southampton manager left the premises under police escort through a side exit.
After the game, Martin noted that he expected no conversation with the club management:
“We discuss the situation after each game, but nothing special is planned.”
Fans expressed their dissatisfaction again during the match, prompting them to reiterate their demand for Martin's dismissal. The coach emphasized that the support system at the club has not changed, and he sees how the players are trying to succeed.
Falkirk's coach John McGlynn expressed sympathy for Martin, stating:
“It's unfortunate to be a manager in such a situation. We felt that today we could take advantage of their vulnerability.”
