Weather problems before Ryder Cup

According to The Sun: Tomorrow marks the start of the Ryder Cup, but the course near Bethpage Black is already flooded. This could force teams to cancel their final practices.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms hitting New York have led to significant precipitation on the Bethpage Black course. The situation on Thursday morning looked quite serious: there was water on the 18th green, and other areas of the course were also flooded, including one of the putting practice areas.

Large puddles presented a gloomy sight ahead of the start at 7 AM (12:00 PM British time) on Friday. Additionally, screens on the course informed spectators of the danger due to the bad weather.

Nevertheless, the forecast for Friday and Sunday promises improvements, although new rains may hinder final preparations on Thursday.

Concerns from athletes

The US and European teams plan to play nine holes. However, according to media reports at 9 AM, Europe still intends to take the field, while the US is considering 'potential practices on all courses.'

The US team had to conduct a photo session under a large tent, while the Europeans had already taken photos on the course. Viktor Hovland, speaking with journalists, noted:

“I hope I can practice a bit and maybe play four or five holes, at least.'
“I would like to see how what I do on the course looks on the golf course and just feel more comfortable.'
“It's not ideal, but this isn't the first time this has happened. I would like to think I'm a professional and I can handle situations like this. We'll figure it all out.”

The final day of the Junior Ryder Cup has been moved to another course nearby.

US Team Captain's mistakes

The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday instead of the planned Thursday date due to bad weather forecasts. American captain Keegan Bradley did not escape several blunders. The biggest one occurred when he mentioned the US victory at the Ryder Cup in 1999, confusing names. Instead of naming Justin Leonard, who made the winning shot, he said 'Justin Rose', which drew laughter from the team and spectators.

“Bradley, referring to Justin Rose's great shot in 1999 as his inspiration... Europe is already leading 1-0.”
“Justin lives rent-free in their minds.”
“A major blunder.”
“I hope Keegan Bradley has prepared his team better than his performance.”

These misunderstandings highlighted the importance of focus in such critical moments, and now both teams are eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament, despite challenging weather conditions. The Ryder Cup has always been filled with emotions and challenges, and this year is no exception. It is crucial that athletes can adapt to circumstances and deliver their best performances on the course.
