Cyberpolice intervened in the Ryder Cup due to fan scandal.
Chaos at Ryder Cup: police against aggressive fans
According to The Sun: The state police had to be called to the Ryder Cup due to aggressive fans who turned Bethpage into an arena of chaos.
SportsfileThe competition between the USA and Europe became tense on Saturday afternoon under the clear New York sun.
Players actively felt the support of their fans on the historic Black course. Shane Lowry repeatedly clashed with fans, who were eventually ejected by the police.
Rory McIlroy, his playing partner, also refused to continue playing at one point due to abusive shouts from the stands.
Throughout the day, European players faced unacceptable insults from fans.
Additional security measures
The PGA of America, the organizers of the Ryder Cup, issued a statement on Saturday afternoon.
It mentioned that additional security was introduced for McIlroy and Lowry's match against Justin Thomas and Cameron Young.
The number of state police officers was also increased at three other matches as the situation became more tense.
Even dogs were brought in to control aggressive fans.
Warnings were posted around Bethpage for fans to control their behavior.
“We added security and state police to Match 1, as well as to the other three matches in today's subsequent games,” said the PGA of America.
“Additionally, the frequency of messages about fan behavior on video screens across the field has increased. We will continue to monitor fan behavior closely and take appropriate measures.”
Viewers worldwide noticed the new security measures, and conversations on the field focused on events occurring off the competition.
Unfortunately, all of this threatened to overshadow the impressive play of the Europeans.
However, after a 3-1 victory in the foursomes during the morning session, they remained determined not to let that happen.
By 5 PM Eastern Time, the Europeans were winning in all their matches in the fourball format.
This situation at the Ryder Cup reflects the rising tension at sporting events, which can affect the playing experience. Organizers and law enforcement have already implemented measures to ensure the safety of both players and spectators. The introduction of new security measures has become a necessary step to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play on such a prestigious stage.
