Ryder Cup changes schedule due to weather: when will the opening ceremony now take place.
Changes to the Ryder Cup opening schedule
According to The Sun: The Ryder Cup organizers decided to move the ceremonial opening 24 hours earlier due to the forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The ceremony, which was scheduled for 16:00, will now take place earlier due to unfavorable weather conditions.
GettyThis change was announced on Tuesday afternoon, less than 48 hours before the event was set to start.
The Ryder Cup statement read:
“Due to the prediction of unfavorable weather on Thursday, September 25, the ceremonial opening of the Ryder Cup has been moved to Wednesday, September 24. The pre-show ceremony will start at 15:00, and the ceremonial part will begin at 16:00. Ryder Cup+ ticket holders for Thursday will now be admitted on both Wednesday and Thursday.”
According to tradition, at the opening, the team captains announce their pairings for the first session on Friday. However, this time, Keegan Bradley and Luke Donald will do so only at 16:00 on Thursday.
Donald hopes for a positive start on Friday morning, as his team won the first session this year in Rome with a score of 4-0, leading to a confident 16 1/2 – 11 1/2 victory for Europe.
It is also worth noting that the USA team has been successful in morning sessions, having won 3-1 at Whistling Straits in 2021 and 4-0 at Hazeltine in 2016.
Plans for Wednesday
The schedule change adds events to a busy day at Bethpage on Wednesday. Eight European players and six Americans will appear before the media, including Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau.
The USA team will take official photographs, and both teams will conduct nine practice holes. There will also be a Ryder Cup Celebrity All-Star match in the morning.
