Reaction to the game
The crowd's shouts affected McIlroy throughout the day. He stepped away from his shot twice on the sixth hole, enduring jeers that made him wait four minutes for the atmosphere to calm before he could play.
Eventually, he made par from 34 feet, and some offenders were removed from the event.
The European team captain Luke Donald blamed the crowd for a 'crossing line' as new video footage showed McMahon inciting shouts earlier that day.
McIlroy's wife, Erica Stall, was also insulted, being called a 'b****', and one fan even threw a drink at her.
McIlroy faced insults accusing him of 'playing like a wet noodle' and 'indecision'.
At one point, enduring the pressure of insults, McIlroy responded to the spectators, 'f*** off, shut up,' while winning with Tommy Fleetwood on the 16th hole.
This pair won 3&2 against Collin Morikawa and Harris English, maintaining their perfect reputation in the Ryder Cup.
Throughout the day, crowd management security was heightened, and large screens reminded attendees to maintain proper behavior.
