Sainsbury's adds soup to lunch offering: how to benefit.
New snack at 'Sainsbury's'
According to The Sun: The 'Sainsbury's' store chain has introduced a new, unusual product that has instantly captured the affection of customers.
This month, the retailer began selling small packages of Covent Garden soup as part of their standard, premium, and kitchen meals, which include a main course, snack, and drink.
Sainsbury'sThese 280 g containers come in chicken or tomato flavor and serve as a snack that customers can choose main courses such as sandwiches or baguettes for dipping.
The new product has sparked significant interest among consumers who see it as a true revolution.
One customer wrote on Reddit: “Soup as a snack? This is madness, I didn't know about this!”
Another added: “They're making SOUP in lunch!?!?! And as a snack, not as a main dish!”
“Thanks for this information. Now I'm going to Sainsbury's for lunch.”
A third enthusiastically noted: “Soup as a snack is a huge win. It perfectly pairs with a sandwich.”
The fourth agreed: “Soup changes the game for winter lunch.”
However, customers are wondering whether they can eat the soup cold or if it's better to heat it up – some plan to do this in the microwave at work.
As of today, 'Sainsbury's' has three lunch options: standard for £3.95, premium for £5.50, and elite Kitchen Deli for £7.
Previously, Tesco offered Covent Garden soup in its lunch, but removed it in May.
The retailer noted: “We periodically refresh our lunch range to reflect the latest trends and products that our customers want to buy.”
Lunches are an important segment for supermarkets as customers often discuss the best combinations on social media.
This month, Asda launched a new lunch for £3.74, replacing its old three for two offer on lunch products. Like other supermarkets, their offer includes a main course, a snack, and a drink. This is now the lowest offer without participating in loyalty programs, available without cards.
The new lunch is available in all Asda stores, including Asda Express, as well as online. With a variety of 132 main dishes, 336 snacks, and 222 drinks, customers can choose from a wide range of favorite products.
Lunch prices often become a subject of discussion. This month, 'Sainsbury's' raised the price of its premium lunch from £5 to £5.50, while Tesco recently raised the price of its regular lunch by 25 pence to £3.85 with a Clubcard – this caused dissatisfaction among customers.
Also, dinner offers for Tesco and Sainsbury's have risen from £12 to £15 with loyalty cards.
The new soup at Sainsbury’s, with such a sharp consumer reaction, underscores the importance of innovation in the lunch sector, which directly impacts customer satisfaction and loyalty. So far, retailers must keep an eye on changes in customer preferences, as competition in the market is quite fierce.
