Sanctions against Lorak and Povalij: what assets have been blocked in Ukraine.
According to inkorr.com: Vladislav Vlasюк, the president's commissioner for sanctions policy, stated that Ukrainian show business stars working in Russia have suffered the consequences of the sanctions imposed in 2022. In particular, Ani Lorak and Taisiia Povalij have become 'toxic' in the eyes of Ukrainian authorities due to the loss of assets and the blocking of their bank accounts in Ukraine.
According to Vlasюк, Ukrainian sanctions complicate cooperation with these stars on the territory of Ukraine and also block their channels on streaming platforms. Working with YouTube in this respect seems more successful than with Telegram, but we must keep our finger on the pulse.
The situation with sanctions has had a negative impact on Taisiia Povalij, who has lost real estate in Ukraine. However, the Ministry of Justice does not plan to confiscate her son's apartment, which was previously gifted to her mother by the Party of Regions.
Ani Lorak and her Russian citizenship
Another Ukrainian singer, Ani Lorak, has also attracted the attention of Ukrainian society due to obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation. She disappeared from the Ukrainian music scene after 2017 and in February 2024 applied for Russian citizenship, allowing her to avoid criticism for cooperating with Russia.
The sanctions imposed against Ukrainian artists working in Russia demonstrate a clear position of the state regarding collaborators in culture. This also highlights changes in public perception of those who have chosen the path of cooperation with the aggressor. Events surrounding Ani Lorak and Taisiia Povalij will undoubtedly remain at the center of attention of Ukrainians who are monitoring the developments in connection with the escalation of the conflict.
