The League Two club issued a statement condemning the shocking post, which, according to them, depicts "staff members of our club edited to look like they are hanging from a tree."
According to reports, the post contained an image of a lynch mob associated with the right-wing hate group Ku Klux Klan.
Stirling Albion stated that this "greatly exceeds" the level of acceptable criticism. The club reported that they know who created this post and plan to block this user.
“The club is aware of the post made on X/Twitter last Saturday. The post featured an image of a Ku Klux Klan lynch mob with staff members of our club edited to look like they are hanging from a tree. This is absolutely disgusting behavior, and we believe that someone who considers themselves a supporter of the club thought this was acceptable.”
“Everyone obviously has the right to their opinion and criticism, but this has clearly crossed the line. We have a duty to care for our staff and know who was responsible. We have already informed the police, and the offender will be banned.”
“Those who consider the publication of such images a joke must realize that distributing malicious material that is grossly offensive or threatening can be a criminal offense. Moreover, we all need to be aware of the destructive impact of online bullying and harassment. Please stop, think, and consider others before posting.”
SunSport has contacted the Scottish police regarding this matter.
This incident serves as a vivid example of how social media can become a platform for irresponsible behavior. The club aims to protect its staff, and punishment for the offenders could be an important step in the fight against online bullying.
