U.S. Senators Call for Transfer of $5 Billion of Frozen Russian Assets to Ukraine.
According to ТСН: A letter signed by a group of senators proposes using the powers provided by the Economic Prosperity and Opportunities Act (REPO) to transfer frozen sovereign assets of Russia to Ukraine.
They note that this will help expedite the decision-making regarding 162 billion dollars that are blocked in the European Union, as well as allow the purchase of weapons in the U.S. to support Ukraine's defense.
Furthermore, the senators urge the Secretary of State and the Secretary of the Treasury to take measures to confiscate about 5 billion dollars of Russian assets on U.S. territory.
At the same time, negotiations are ongoing in Brussels among EU countries regarding the establishment of a mechanism for utilizing frozen Russian funds to provide financial support to Ukraine.
This move by American senators underscores the U.S. commitment to actively supporting Ukraine in the face of aggression from Russia. The calls for the confiscation of Russian assets highlight the growing international solidarity towards Ukraine, while the European Union is also seeking new ways to provide financial assistance. This could significantly strengthen Ukraine's position in the war and contribute to its recovery.
