Tragic death of marathon runner
According to The Sun: 30-year-old marathon runner Shevarde Alene died after collapsing during training. She was taken to a hospital near the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
AFPUnfortunately, the doctors could not save her life, and Alene died in the hospital.
Only in May of this year, she won the Stockholm Marathon, and an announcement of her tragic death was posted on the event's Instagram page on Thursday.
“With deep sorrow, we received the news of the death of Shevarde Alene, winner of the adidas Stockholm Marathon 2025.”
“Shevarde Alene felt unwell during training and was taken to the hospital, where, unfortunately, her life could not be saved.”
“She was 30 years old. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.”
Alene was a successful athlete, winning 12 out of 27 competitions at the professional level. In January, she set a new personal best at the Tata Mumbai Marathon, completing the distance in 2:29:34.
The victory at the Stockholm Marathon, with a time of 2:30:38, was her greatest achievement.
This victory added to her collection, which included successes around the world, including two wins in Mexico, where she resided. Previously, Alene also lived in New York.
She returned to Ethiopia as she began to feel unwell and fatigued. Unfortunately, despite rapid hospitalization, her life was cut short.
