U.S. Assures Ukraine: Weapons Purchased for Kyiv Won’t Be Diverted to the Middle East.
U.S. Confirms Commitment to Ukraine’s Arms Supply
According to UATV: Washington has given firm assurances that military hardware bought specifically for Ukraine will not be redirected to the Middle East. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha received this guarantee from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France. The pledge is particularly significant for the PURL program, which funds arms acquisitions for Ukraine.
The discussion between Sybiha and Rubio took place as part of broader G7 talks covering military support for Kyiv. Although Rubio initially noted that the Pentagon had considered possible reallocation of weaponry, he ultimately stated that
“nothing from this program has been diverted to any other geographic region,”according to Sybiha. This clarification helps ease concerns about the continuity of U.S. aid.
International Reactions and Strategic Implications
Separately, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen argued that the United States should not send arms intended for Ukraine to Iran. The issue has sparked debate among international allies who back Ukraine’s defense and security efforts.
The G7 meeting underscores the critical role of global solidarity with Ukraine amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Reaffirming that weapons shipments remain on course helps maintain trust among allies regarding the reliability of American military assistance to Ukraine—a key factor in the current security landscape. These diplomatic exchanges also highlight the need for coordinated defense strategies in the face of worldwide challenges.
