Call for Action Following Massive Attack on Kyiv

According to 5 канал — Політика: In the wake of a large-scale assault on Kyiv, Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine's acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, has called on allies to take decisive action, stressing the urgent need to unblock the European Union's 21st sanctions package. The attack occurred on the night of July 19, when Russia launched approximately 40 ballistic missiles, causing significant destruction across the capital.

The overnight shelling in Kyiv resulted in numerous fires:

  • In the Solomianskyi district, an office building and a nine-story residential block caught fire.
  • In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a three-story building went up in flames, and over ten parked vehicles nearby were damaged.
  • In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out on the roof of a private home.
  • In the Desnianskyi district, a non-residential building was set ablaze.
  • In the Dniprovskyi district, emergency crews battled car fires and a blaze in a dormitory.

According to Andrii Sybiha,

“There can be no pauses in our joint efforts to build a European shield against ballistic terror.”
He also expressed outrage over the inaction of those who fail to support Ukraine during these trying times:
“The blood of Ukrainians is on the hands of sports bureaucrats who take such immoral steps.”
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, one person was found dead as a result of the attack, underscoring the severity of the situation.

The Urgency of Action and Support

Ukraine is urging its allies to take active measures to ensure proper protection against future attacks and to promote stability in the region. Unblocking the 21st sanctions package is a critical step toward enhancing security and bolstering Ukraine's fight against aggression.

This assault highlights not only the escalation of military hostilities in Ukraine but also the pressing need for immediate international action to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. The situation in Kyiv underscores the importance of continued support from Western partners, particularly in light of new sanctions that could serve as a powerful tool to pressure the aggressor. It is essential that the global community not only responds to this incident but also develops a long-term strategy to prevent similar attacks in the future.
