Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Responds to Strikes on Moscow Refinery: A Direct Message to the Aggressor Nation.
Andrii Sybiha Weighs In on Attacks Against Russian Targets
According to UATV: On June 18, 2023, Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched a large-scale strike on the Moscow Oil Refinery located in the Moscow region, as well as the 'Gukovo' fuel depot in Russia’s Rostov region. In response, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, addressed the operation and other military targets hit inside Russian territory.
Sybiha made it clear that these actions are a direct response to Russian aggression.
“Your country started an aggressive war against ours,”he stated. The minister also called on Russia’s leadership to be held accountable, adding:
“Ask Putin when he plans to put an end to this.”
Shifting the Conflict’s Dynamics
These strikes by Ukraine’s Defense Forces signal an escalation in the conflict and demonstrate Kyiv’s willingness to retaliate against the aggressor’s military operations. They also highlight a tactical shift, with the Ukrainian military now actively targeting strategic assets on enemy soil.
Such moves could reshape the trajectory of hostilities in the region and affect Ukraine-Russia relations on the international stage. Both sides continue to show firm resolve in the war, raising new obstacles for any potential peace process.
