Ukraine Has Stabilized the Frontline and Strengthened Its Negotiating Hand, Says Foreign Minister Sybiha.
Statement from Ukraine's Top Diplomat
According to UATV: On May 29, 2023, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha declared that the stabilization of the battlefield and the combat readiness of Ukraine's armed forces are bolstering Kyiv's leverage in talks, while firmly rejecting any ultimatums from Moscow. According to Sybiha, Ukrainian troops have held their ground and steadied the front line, a development that significantly enhances their standing in combat operations.
Andrii Sybiha: 'Our assessments match those of our partners. Ukraine has held its positions and stabilized the front. Our battlefield positions are stronger than ever. Our army is the most combat-capable on the continent. All of this substantially strengthens our hand at the negotiating table.'
These remarks underscore Ukraine's confidence in its military capabilities and its readiness to engage in talks with Russia.
At the same time, the minister pointed out that Russia is demanding the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk region, a condition Kyiv finds unacceptable. 'That is unacceptable. Ukraine will not accept any formula that comes at the cost of its sovereignty or territorial integrity,' he stressed. Sybiha also expressed gratitude to the United States for its role in efforts to end the war, highlighting the importance of international support in the current situation.
Ukraine's Strengthened Position
As a result, Ukraine's stance in negotiations is growing more robust, and Russia's ultimatums run counter to Ukrainian national interests.
The foreign minister's statements indicate that the country continues to reinforce both its military and diplomatic positions despite pressure from Russia. The stabilizing situation on the front could shape future talks, particularly influencing how the international community responds to Moscow's demands. Support from partners, especially the United States, has become a critical factor in preserving Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity.
