Ukrainian Drone Forces Destroy Russian Sapper Base in Donetsk Region.
Drone Strike Hits Russian Engineering Regiment
According to UATV: On June 5, 2023, the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an attack on a base of the 90th Separate Engineer-Sapper Regiment, part of Russia's 51st Army, located in the settlement of Pionerske on the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast. The strike aimed to destroy enemy military assets, according to Commander Robert 'Madjar' Brovda of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
Role of the 90th Separate Engineer-Sapper Regiment
The 90th Separate Engineer-Sapper Regiment of Russia's 51st Army is responsible for operations including:
- laying minefields;
- constructing the so-called 'Surovikin Line' in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia directions;
- training specialists in engineering and technical support;
- developing and deploying new advanced munitions.
'The SBS 'birds' carried out a massive strike on the location of the 90th Separate Engineer-Sapper Regiment of the 51st Russian Army in the settlement of Pionerske, temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region.' Robert 'Madjar' Brovda, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces
This attack highlights ongoing Ukrainian efforts to counter enemy military operations in the region and degrade critical Russian military resources. The incident underscores the intensity of combat in eastern Ukraine, particularly in areas under Russian control.
Such strikes on enemy military installations are part of Ukraine's broader strategy to weaken Russian combat capabilities and protect national sovereignty. Given the critical role of engineering units in modern warfare, eliminating this regiment could significantly hinder Russia's operational effectiveness in the area.
