Weather conditions in Ukraine

According to ТСН: The weather in Ukraine, like in other countries of Eastern Europe, largely depends on the activity of the Polar vortex. This winter season, we expect a cyclonic nature of the weather, as well as the influx of warm and moist Atlantic air deep into the continent.

According to the analysis of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the western transport of air masses bringing moisture and warmth from the Atlantic may be interrupted by the invasions of cold Arctic air from the north. Therefore, against the background of generally warm weather, there may be periods of true winter, especially in January and February.

Expected temperature and cold periods

Meteorologists predict that the average temperature during the winter months will be 1.5°C - 2°C higher than normal. This trend will manifest itself throughout most days of the cold season.

“Cold (frosty weather) periods lasting from three to seven days are possible (there may be one period every 10-20 days) with minimum temperatures mostly in the range from 5°C to 18°C of frost. In the northern part and the Carpathians, somewhat lower on certain days (most likely in January and February)”

Meteorologists also emphasize that during the cold period, weather conditions may experience sharp changes: short-term but significant cold snaps, atmospheric precipitation of various intensities, and dangerous weather phenomena are possible.

We remind you that meteorologist Vitaliy Postryhan stated that the strongest cold snap in 70 years is approaching Ukraine. This is confirmed by data from one of the numerous forecasting models. He also noted that over the past 20 years, winters in Europe have shortened by an average of 24 days, as recorded by Copernicus satellites.

In view of these forecasts, it is important to pay attention to potential changes in weather conditions, as they can have serious consequences for the population and require appropriate preparations for winter. Warm periods may alternate with frosty weeks, necessitating readiness to adapt to sharp temperature fluctuations.
