Ukrainian Shoppers Received Fake iPhones from Comfy and MOYO, Triggering Threads Uproar.
Counterfeit Smartphone Sales Spark Outrage
According to Novyny.live: A major controversy has erupted on the Ukrainian side of the social platform Threads after customers claimed they were sold dummy iPhones instead of real devices by retailers Comfy and MOYO. The scandal came to light when a woman who ordered an iPhone 17 Pro Max from Comfy and a man who purchased an iPhone 17 Pro from MOYO both discovered that their packages contained lifeless replicas rather than functioning smartphones. This incident highlights growing concerns about product authenticity in Ukraine’s electronics market.
Comfy has acknowledged that the device received by the female buyer was not genuine. Meanwhile, MOYO is investigating the possibility of fraud involving third parties in this case. The male customer has already filed a compensation claim, underscoring the seriousness of the situation and consumers’ determination to uphold their rights.
Corporate Responses and Consumer Backlash
A Threads user under the handle navka1 shared her experience:
“The seals were intact. I signed the delivery note. I didn’t want to ruin the gift box. My boyfriend opens the box, tries to turn it on—nothing. He plugs in a Type-C cable and realizes: this isn’t a phone. It’s a very high-quality dummy.”This account has fueled widespread indignation among consumers, who argue that such practices are unacceptable.
Comfy also issued a statement regarding the incident:
“We have already recommended that you contact the police to open a criminal investigation. On our side, we will provide law enforcement with all CCTV footage, product movement data by serial numbers, and expert examination results.”This signals the company’s serious intent to resolve the matter and implement corrective measures.
In Ukraine, fines for selling counterfeit goods can reach up to 34,000 UAH, putting the reputation of any retailer caught in such scandals at risk. The controversy surrounding the sale of fake smartphones has alarmed consumers and raised doubts about trust in major tech retailers.
This scandal over counterfeit smartphone sales in Ukraine underscores the critical need for consumer protection and retailer accountability. In the wake of this incident, companies may face severe consequences, including financial penalties and a loss of customer confidence. Shoppers are becoming increasingly cautious when choosing stores, a shift that could reshape the entire electronics retail landscape in Ukraine.
