Hamilton at Ferrari: Expert Explains Reason for Driver's Brake Problems.
Lewis Hamilton's Problems at Ferrari
According to The Sun: Sky Sports expert Karun Chandhok believes that Lewis Hamilton's difficulties at Ferrari may have one simple reason.
The seven-time world champion has yet to reach the podium in his debut season with Ferrari after moving from Mercedes.
GettyMany experts express various theories regarding Hamilton's problems, but Chandhok believes the reason could lie in the braking system. Throughout his career, Lewis has used brakes from Carbon Industries, while Ferrari uses Brembo brakes, which first appeared in Formula 1 in 1975.
“One of the engineers I worked with at GP2, Mauro, who is now at Brembo, talked about his interaction with Lewis. He spent his entire F1 career at Mercedes and McLaren using Carbon Industries brakes,” said Chandhok.
Chandhok continued: “Braking has always been a strong point for Lewis, but switching to Brembo brakes has affected his feel. It is less aggressive, less grabby.”
“Mauro mentioned that they spent a lot of time trying to give Lewis a feel he was already familiar with and believe they have made some significant strides,” he added.
Hamilton's issues continue at the Baku weekend, where he was knocked out of qualifying in Q2 due to a poor tire choice strategy. Additionally, Lewis was unable to swap positions with teammate Charles Leclerc, resulting in only an eighth-place finish in the race.
“It's not about the money, but I think they are the official supplier and would like everything to work. They can't secretly change the brake material,” stated Ted Kravitz.
In conclusion, Chandhok emphasized that Ferrari used to have the option of changing brake suppliers for different drivers, but now they remain a “signature” Brembo team.
The situation with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari serves as a reminder that adapting to new conditions can be challenging even for title-winning drivers. Every detail, including the reaction to the braking system, can significantly affect results on the track. In its quest for success, Ferrari must find optimal solutions to help Hamilton return to his usual competitiveness.
These issues could pose a serious challenge for the team in the upcoming season, as high competition on Formula 1 circuits demands maximum effectiveness from every strategy. Whether Ferrari can find a solution that brings Lewis back to the podium remains to be seen.
