Ukraine Secures $4 Billion in Allied Aid: Three Priority Areas of Support.
Meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group
According to UATV: On June 18, 2023, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group convened and finalized new assistance packages for Ukraine totaling roughly $4 billion. This sum targets several critical areas aimed at bolstering the nation's defensive capabilities.
Core Assistance Areas
- Fresh contributions exceeding $1 billion to the PURL program.
- Backing for the Czech initiative and deliveries of long-range munitions valued at over $500 million.
- Approximately $1 billion allocated to fund the production of Ukrainian drones and missiles.
During the discussions, Germany agreed to provide an additional $200 million to the JUMPSTART mechanism for long-term purchases of Patriot system missiles. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom will finance 150 Ukrainian-made drones and 350 air defense missiles.
The Ukrainian Presidential Office highlighted this as the largest PURL support amount ever announced at a Contact Group session. It was also noted that some weaponry will reach Ukraine within the current month, demonstrating the speed and effectiveness of international aid amid the ongoing conflict. These new support packages underscore the international community's steadfast commitment to Ukraine as it works to strengthen its defense posture.
This Contact Group meeting underscores the growing global backing for Ukraine as the military conflict surpasses one year. The increased funding, particularly for drone and missile production, reflects partners' determination to assist Ukraine not only in the short term but also to ensure its long-term defensive resilience.
