Russian Phone Numbers Found on NABU Officer Detained at SBU Checkpoint.
NABU Employee Detained
According to Novyny.live: On March 15, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) apprehended a staff member of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) at a checkpoint near Sumy. The arrest was prompted by suspicious indicators that caught the attention of law enforcement officers.
The detainee is a Ukrainian citizen originally from temporarily occupied territories. During the inspection, it emerged that he failed to disclose his place of employment, presenting only a page from the 'Diia' mobile app. A subsequent search revealed multiple Russian phone numbers stored in his contacts, raising further concerns about his activities.
Strengthening Security Across Ukraine
The SBU enforces counterintelligence protocols at checkpoints in frontline regions of the country. This detention is part of broader measures aimed at bolstering national security. As stated in an official announcement:
“The SBU operates strictly within the framework of current legislation and adheres to all procedures established to ensure the safety of Ukrainian citizens and our military personnel carrying out combat missions in the Sumy direction.”
This incident underscores the critical role of counterintelligence work amid Ukraine's ongoing security challenges. Given the protracted war and the threat posed by Russia, such actions by law enforcement are vital for protecting the state and its people. It also reflects heightened scrutiny of individuals who may pose a risk within Ukraine, particularly in areas near the front lines.
