Russia and the US held talks: progress minimal, new meetings in 2026.
According to ТСН: Diplomats from Russia and the US held a meeting to discuss eliminating 'provocations' in bilateral relations. According to the Russian side, progress in these negotiations is 'minimal'.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that discussions took place, stating:
“The fact that another round of consultations with the US regarding 'provocations' took place is confirmed. Progress is minimal”.
Ryabkov also added that the parties plan to continue efforts to 'remove provocations', with the next round of negotiations expected at the beginning of spring 2026.
Meeting in Miami
Earlier, the envoy of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, summarized his meeting with the US delegation in Miami and hinted at future negotiations, stating:
“Next time: Moscow”.
He characterized the meeting as 'constructive'. Negotiations with US representative Steve Witkoff and president's son-in-law Jared Kushner were described by Dmitriev as 'discussions'.
This meeting confirms the incompleteness of dialogue between the US and Russia in seeking ways to resolve tensions. The planning of the next round of negotiations in Moscow also indicates the intention of both countries to continue discussions, despite existing differences.
