The USA proposed trilateral negotiations with Russia: Zelensky's reaction.
According to ТСН: The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, who represents the Ukrainian negotiating group in the USA, announced Washington's initiative to hold trilateral negotiations involving delegations from the USA, Ukraine, and Russia.
Statement of the President of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky shared his thoughts with journalists in a chat at the Office of the President. He expressed skepticism about the possible results of such a meeting.
"We had meetings in Turkey in this format. While there were results, and they were exchanges. I believe this is not much of what we wanted, but it is very important," he noted.
Zelensky also suggested that one possible outcome of the trilateral meeting could be the organization of a leaders' meeting, as some complex issues need to be resolved at this level.
"If the outcome will be exchanges or some other agreements, I cannot be against it; then we support the proposal of the United States of America. We will see how it goes," he said.
Intensity of the Desire for Peace
Zelensky noted that recent meetings in Geneva, Miami, and Berlin indicate an active desire to end the war.
"We really want this, we demonstrate it, we are not just talking, we are doing. We are working on various documents. All these documents are important. Both the 20-point plan and security guarantees, and to prosper, as we say, this is the restoration of our state after the end of the war," emphasized the Ukrainian president.
However, according to Zelensky, Russia does not demonstrate a desire to end the war.
"Although our colleagues from the USA say that Russia wants to end the war. Sometimes it wants to, but cannot. We do not see this yet. But, I believe, thanks to the perseverance of our American partners, God willing, we will manage to stop the Russian war," he concluded.
Recall that earlier Rustem Umerov noted the conclusion of negotiations in the United States, where the Ukrainian side, as well as American and European partners, participated. This led to agreements on further cooperation.
In the context of the ongoing armed conflict, the results of trilateral negotiations could be an important step toward finding paths to peace. Participants hope that active dialogues will help advance the process and lead to significant changes in the situation.
