U.S. Military Strikes in Venezuela

According to TSN.ua: The United States has conducted a military strike in Venezuela, an action with potential global repercussions. This development is significant for Ukraine, as Venezuela is a key ally of Russia. Oleksandr Merezhko, a Ukrainian MP and head of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, emphasized that the regime of Nicolás Maduro actively supports the Kremlin's war against Ukraine. The conflict in Venezuela may form part of a broader U.S. strategy to weaken the coalition of authoritarian states backing Russian aggression. This move highlights how regional conflicts are increasingly interconnected with the larger geopolitical struggle between democracies and autocracies.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced the detention of Nicolás Maduro and detailed the military actions taken against Venezuela. These operations resulted in approximately 75 fatalities. Venezuela reported the deaths of at least 24 of its fighters, while Cuba, another regional ally, confirmed the loss of 32 military and police personnel.

Tanker Blockade and Strategic Consequences

As part of the operation, the U.S. also initiated a blockade of oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. Donald Trump declared:

"I am ordering a FULL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS bound for or departing from Venezuela."

These measures can be interpreted as an effort to undermine the Maduro regime, which, according to Oleksandr Merezhko, is an ally of Vladimir Putin. He stressed the importance of weakening this 'axis of evil' that is waging war against Ukraine.

Consequently, the events in Venezuela triggered by U.S. military action hold strategic importance for Ukraine. They impact the global balance of power and the support networks for authoritarian regimes that oppose international law and Ukrainian sovereignty.

The fallout from the U.S. intervention in Venezuela could alter the dynamics of international relations, particularly within the context of U.S.-Russian rivalry. Given Venezuela's role as a crucial strategic partner for Moscow, such actions may prompt Russia to increase support for its allies in the region, potentially complicating the situation for Ukraine. Simultaneously, by taking these steps, the United States demonstrates its commitment to upholding democratic values and countering authoritarianism on a global scale.
