The process yielded lead iodide powder with an impressive efficiency rate of 94% and a purity level of 99.999%. This innovation highlights how unconventional materials can be repurposed for cutting-edge renewable energy applications.

The resulting perovskite solar cells operate at 21% efficiency, positioning them as strong contenders against conventional solar technologies. Notably, heavy industry is responsible for up to 40% of annual lead waste, while millions of tons of lead from electronic waste enter the environment each year. This underscores the critical importance of material recycling, which can play a key role in mitigating pollution.

The Significance of Technological Innovation

Ian Marius Peters, one of the researchers, stated: 'We will overcome pollution if we use recycled materials.'
