Stephen Bunting wins title in darts in unusual shoes: what's the secret.
Stephen Bunting's victory at the Swiss darts tournament
According to The Sun: Stephen Bunting expressed gratitude to his spiked shoes for winning his second European Championship title this year.
The seasoned player, who ranks 4th in the world, defeated Luke Woodhouse 8-3 at the Swiss Trophy in Basel last Sunday.
Phil Lanning MediaBunting, who is celebrating his 40th birthday, admitted that he changed his footwear during the competition and appeared in unusual spiked shoes, for which he received a prize of £30,000.
“Behind the scenes, a lot of hard work happens,” Bunting said.
“Luke had a fantastic week. I just told him that now is the best time to find his best form before the ProTours.”
Bunting commented on his level of play:
“I am playing the best darts of my life. I feel like I'm consistently delivering good results, even in spiked shoes.”
“I am so happy with this victory, it means a lot.”
He also added that
“I am ranked 4th in the world. It shows how consistent I am.”
Bunting reached the final after defeating Raymond van Barneveld in the quarterfinals and Gian van Veen in the semifinals, easily beating Woodhouse in the decisive match.
“I played in expensive non-spiked shoes, and they had marks,” he explained about his footwear choice.
“So my idea is to use spikes that don’t touch the floor, and they will last much longer.”
“And if someone annoys me, they’ll get one in the back!”id='6377458110112' data-video-id='6377458110112' data-account='5067014667001' data-player='default' data-usage='cms:WordPress:6.5.6:2.8.6:javascript' data-embed='default' class='video-js' data-application-id='' controls style='width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; left: 0;'>
This victory marked an important milestone for Bunting as he demonstrated his competitiveness and stability on the international stage. After the success in Switzerland, the player is even more allowed to tune in for upcoming tournaments that could significantly impact his ranking and Olympic sports career.
Observing Bunting's career, one can see how year after year he improves his game, confirming his status as one of the best players in the world. Upcoming competitions will likely further enhance his motivation and mood to achieve new heights.
