Steven Gerrard on His Return to Coaching

According to The Sun: Steven Gerrard believes he has 'unfinished business' as a coach and is only willing to consider new offers if he receives 'support' and 'competitiveness.'

The Liverpool legend has not had coaching experience since his dismissal from the Saudi club Al-Ettifaq earlier this year.

Gerrard had significant success during his first managerial role at Rangers from 2018 to 2021, winning the Scottish Premier League title.

However, after that, his career faced difficulties, and he was dismissed from Aston Villa in 2022.

The 45-year-old coach received considerable criticism for his time at Al-Ettifaq, even though he spent only 18 months in the position due to poor results.

In a conversation with Rio Ferdinand on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Gerrard shared what conditions interest him for accepting new offers.

He mentioned he received 'five or six interesting calls' since leaving Saudi Arabia but noted the timing was not quite right.

“I think certain jobs and clubs would suit my style and way of working.”

Gerrard remarked: “But I have time, and I am not rushing. This time I have to find the right people to build a strong team.”

“I have received five or six really interesting phone calls since I stopped in Saudi Arabia. But I wasn't ready because I don't have my team.”

Gerrard also revealed that he recently became a grandfather, which he believes influenced his decision.

“But if the right call comes, the right club, and the right opportunity, I will accept the challenge because it's in me.”

This week, he is linked with a potential return to Rangers after Russell Martin's dismissal.

The Guardian reported that Gerrard remains popular at Ibrox and is a serious candidate for the position.

“I felt that I had 100% support at Rangers.”

Gerrard concluded that he wants to take on a new challenge if the team competes for victory.
