Steven Gerrard Could Become Coach at Wrexham

According to The Sun: Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool legend, may return to coaching after being without a club for eight months. Rumors about his potential arrival at Wrexham were recently bolstered by Pet Nevin, stating that Gerrard could significantly impact one of the most well-known clubs in the Championship.

After his time at Aston Villa and in Saudi Arabia, Wrexham could be a fitting choice for the former England midfielder. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the celebrity owners of the club, are eager to elevate its status, and Gerrard could be an asset to this ambitious project.

Pet Nevin noted in a conversation with Escapist Magazine:

“I have to say, Wrexham is an allure for Steven Gerrard. What negativity is there at Wrexham? The demands from most people in football are minimal. Perhaps not from the owners, let’s be honest. But he could make it special. I find it intriguing, and I think, 'Oh, yes, this could be good.' And of course, in the northwest, Wrexham might have some understanding with Liverpool FC. I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens. From Stevie G's perspective, this could be tempting.”

Phil Parkinson, the Wrexham coach who has already elevated the club twice, may not share Nevin's optimism. Currently, the team sits in 15th place in the Championship with two wins, two draws, and three losses after seven matches.

Despite the sensationalism surrounding Gerrard, Wrexham has won two of its last three matches and is preparing to meet Leicester, which will give them a chance to rise in the table.

Gerrard, who has had a tough time since leaving Rangers, has also been a topic of discussion. Former Manchester United player Bobby Robson expressed that any potential club change may depend on Gerrard's desire to return to the game:

“It depends on whether Steve wants to get back in the game. He had a good experience in Saudi Arabia, but a job like this would definitely interest him if he truly wants to return.”

Robson also emphasized the importance of stability at Wrexham, noting the progress made under Parkinson's leadership. “I think Wrexham should give Phil a little more time as he has done well with them. They have made fantastic progress, rising to the Championship in a short time. If they can establish themselves in the Championship or even finish in the middle of the table, it will be an extraordinary success from where they came.”

He also highlighted the positive atmosphere at the club: “The charisma of the guys from the USA is fantastic, and Wrexham has a great fan base that supports the team, so the atmosphere is always wonderful. And the sponsorship that Ryan Reynolds brings will only strengthen the club.”

Time will tell whether Gerrard becomes a new chapter for Wrexham or if Parkinson continues his work to take the club to new heights. Both options have their advantages and challenges, and it will be important to follow the development of this situation in the coming months.
