Steven Gerrard may return to Rangers: main candidate for the coaching position.
Steven Gerrard's Return to Rangers
According to The Sun: Steven Gerrard may return to Rangers, as suggested by recent news.
The Liverpool legend, 45-year-old Gerrard, is currently without a job after leaving the Saudi team Al-Ettifaq in January.
PAAccording to reports, Gerrard could make a triumphant return to Rangers following the dismissal of Russell Martin.
The Scottish club announced Martin's dismissal last night after a 1-1 draw with Falkirk. This match was critical for Martin, as his tenure lasted only 123 days, making it the shortest permanent position in the club's history.
Under his leadership, Rangers fell 11 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hibs.
Martin lost only one game, but secured just one win and recorded five draws, which was the basis for his dismissal.
Rangers also noted the dismissal of assistant head coach Matt Gill and first-team coach Mike Williamson.
This leaves the door open for Gerrard if he decides to return.
According to reports by The Guardian, the Liverpool icon is in a 'strong position' to return to Ibrox nearly four years after leaving the club to manage Aston Villa, where his career was not successful.
Gerrard won the championship title with Rangers in the 2020-21 season, becoming the first to bring the Scottish title to the club since 2011.
The former England midfielder remains a popular figure among fans. Given his less successful periods at Villa and Al-Ettifaq, he likely understands that high-profile coaching vacancies do not come around often.
Other candidates for the position include Premier League veteran Sean Dyche and former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl.
