Fines and Denial of Payments: What Awaits Drivers for Summer Tires in Winter.
Drivers may be penalized for using unsuitable seasonal tires
The Ukrainian parliament is considering a bill that introduces fines for using unsuitable seasonal tires. For the first violation, drivers face a fine of 340 hryvnias. The fine may increase for repeated violations.
As of now, such a law does not exist. If you want to drive in winter on summer tires, that is your business, - noted Oleksandr Metolidi, head of 'AVTO PROJECT'.
The expert emphasizes the technical features of different types of tires. Summer tires are not suitable for the winter season as they become hard and have worse grip on the road. Car owners are advised to use winter tires even in mild winter, as they provide better road safety.
Even if there is winter for just a few weeks, it is better to use second-hand winter tires than new summer ones. They will still hold your car on the road better in winter, - advises Oleksandr Metolidi, head of 'AVTO PROJECT'.
It is also worth noting that some insurance companies include special provisions about tire seasonality in their KASKO contracts. In the event of an insurance case after October 15, when the car is equipped with summer tires, compensation will not be provided.
You may not have violated any rules, you are not at fault in an accident, your vehicle is insured, but you will not receive any compensation simply because your car has summer tires instead of winter ones, - warns Oleksandr Metolidi.
