Strasbourg's President Reveals Details of the Mysterious Transfer of Samuels-Smith.
Strasbourg's President Commented on the Confusing Transfer
According to The Sun: Strasbourg's President Mark Keller talked about one of the most confusing transfers of the summer. After Chelsea spent £4 million on talented left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith from Everton in 2023, he joined Strasbourg, which is also owned by Todd Boehly’s BlueCo group, at the end of July for £6.5 million.
Chelsea's new signing Emega faced protests from fans in Strasbourg along with Samuels-SmithThe defender made two appearances on the bench in Ligue 1 matches against Metz and in the Conference League, after which Chelsea 're-signed' him back after 33 days and sent him on loan to Championship club Swansea.
Negotiations concluded late on Monday thanks to an agreement that gave the clubs an additional two hours to finalize transfers.
The tension between Strasbourg fans and their owners BlueCo has already been felt, but it escalated during the match against Lavar in Ligue 1 last weekend.
The club captain Emanuel Emega, who intends to join Chelsea in 2026, was subjected to booing and protest banners.
But not only he became an object of fan discontent: Samuels-Smith's name also appeared on a banner at the Stade de Meinau.
Furious banners yelled: “Samuels-Smith bought for ten times more, left after 34 days for an unknown figure. Do they really think we are fools?”
“Mark Keller, thank you for this golden decade. Time to go!”
This tense atmosphere prompted the president to hold a press conference where they discussed the fans' behavior towards Emega, BlueCo, and Samuels-Smith.
Keller noted: “BlueCo's investments far exceed their promises. There is some jealousy in French football, but it is, mainly, a good sign. Everyone chooses the most suitable path for progress.”
“The club is now bigger than me, than them (Ultras) and everyone else. If we do not support the club, it is better not to come. Let's support our players, our coach, and the club project.”
He also mentioned that “after a few weeks we realized it would be difficult to involve Samuels-Smith in the game. The staff, Chelsea, and the player himself... we decided that an intermediate step was needed. The transfer was canceled. No financial transactions between the clubs took place.”
The French club ultimately signed another Chelsea left-back, Ben Chilwell, before the window closed, who debuted with a 'clean' score against Lavar.
Meanwhile, Samuels-Smith shone for Swansea in their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last night.

The tension between the club and supporters, which intensified after protests, indicates the seriousness of the situation within the team. President Keller is trying to find a balance between the interests of the club and the demands of fans, noting that support for the club is crucial for its development. At the same time, new players like Ben Chilwell may try to regain trust among supporters.
