Medical students will prepare for officer service starting from 2026: what will change.
Changes in military training for students
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, there is an ongoing strengthening of military training in higher education. From now on, the training of reserve officers will become mandatory for students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties and will be integrated into the educational process.
This was reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, on social media.
She noted that the main goal of this initiative is to create a personnel reserve of specialists who are 'critically important for the front and the military medicine system'.
'This will enable us to form a personnel reserve of specialists who are critically important for the front and the military medicine system. We are also updating the list of higher education institutions that will carry out such training, and we are clarifying the professional standard - the requirements for the knowledge, skills, and competencies of future reserve officers,' said Svyrydenko.
According to her, the educational programs will be detailed and strengthened. Clear requirements for the content, schedule, and forms of training are planned, and the volume of study time will increase by 20%.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed bill No. 13276, which provides for the introduction of mandatory military training for students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties. The changes will come into effect in 2026.
In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is also reforming school education: starting in 2027, the subject 'Defense of Ukraine' will become mandatory for all high school students.
These innovations reflect Ukraine's aspiration to ensure proper training for future specialists in the context of modern challenges. Changing approaches to military training for students, particularly in medical and pharmaceutical specialties, will contribute to strengthening the country's defense capabilities and improving the military medicine system. Young people are gaining new opportunities to develop their skills in critically important areas, which can significantly impact the future of the state.
