Court Blocks Investigation

According to Espreso.tv: Journalist Maksym Savchuk has disclosed that a court has prohibited the dissemination of an investigation into apartments purchased by the brother of Oleksii Sukhachov, the head of the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR). The appeal against this ruling is scheduled for Monday at 12:00 PM.

Since July 7, a court order has prevented the publication of the investigation conducted by the outlet 'Slidstvo.Info.' In their probe, reporters uncovered a link between a developer, the DBR director’s brother, and a criminal case concerning the construction of residential complexes in Kharkiv. The apartments in question were acquired at prices ranging from $932 to $1,846 per unit.

Appeal Review and Potential Outcomes

The investigation initially proceeded through the police before being transferred to the DBR. Despite the court ban, eight Ukrainian media outlets published the report on the DBR director’s brother’s property on July 17.

“This connection is traceable. We found links between the developer who built residential complexes in Kharkiv and the brother of the DBR chief,” Maksym Savchuk stated.

The initiative known as '143' derives its name from the number of apartments that were the focus of the investigation. The appeal hearing on Monday at noon will address this specific case, potentially shaping how the situation unfolds.

This case highlights how journalistic work can face judicial obstacles, particularly when it involves high-ranking officials and their relatives. The appeal’s outcome could either uphold or overturn the publication ban, affecting public access to information about possible corruption ties. It also underscores the critical need for transparency in state institutions and among their officials—a key factor in maintaining trust in Ukraine’s governance bodies.
