The bar from Only Fools and Horses sold for a record £22,000: auction details.
Del Boy's bar sold for £22,000
According to The Sun: The bar belonging to Del Boy from the show 'Only Fools and Horses' was sold yesterday for £22,000.
SWNSAt the auction, two bidders 'competed' for this cream vinyl cover from the Trotters' flat. It was noted that its price would not exceed £600, but thanks to our article last week, interest in the lot grew, and more than 200 people started placing bids.
This situation reminded of the final episode of the series, where Del (David Jason) and Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) became millionaires by selling a rare pocket watch for £6.2 million at a Sotheby's auction.
“Incredible. I need a moment,”
— said surprised auctioneer Rachel Holland when the hammer hit the table.
“Nostalgia sells. If this item hadn't been showcased in 'Only Fools', it would probably be worth only £200 as a typical 1950s - 1970s kitsch,”
— noted the expert from the show 'Antiques Roadshow' Will Farmer, who was a co-director of the auction in Stourbridge, West Midlands.
The private buyer, who will spend £27,720 including commission, said he is “very happy” with his purchase of the bar made by the Italian firm Umberto Mascagni.
This bar is one of three or four that were used during the filming of the show.
BBCThe acquisition of this unique artifact not only marked an important event for fans of the show but also highlighted the interest in nostalgic items. As it turns out, even many years after the show ended, 'Only Fools and Horses' continues to evoke memories and emotions in viewers, demonstrating its enduring popularity. Read also
