Leonid Danilovich Kutschma - the second president of Ukraine (July 19, 1994 - January 23, 2005), Prime Minister of Ukraine (1992-1993), General Director of the state enterprise 'Southern Machine-Building Plant O.M. Makarov' (1986-1992). Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

Place of Birth, Education. Born in the village of Chajkino in the Chernihiv Oblast. Father - Danila Prokopyevich, killed at the front in 1944. Mother - Paraske Trofimovna, collective farm worker.

In 1960, Kutschma graduated from Dnipro State University (Physical Technical Faculty, specialty 'Engineer-Mechanic in Rocket Engineering'). Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences, author of inventions and scientific works, Honorary Doctor of several foreign universities, corresponding member of several academies of sciences.

Career and Public Activity. 1960-1982 - engineer, chief engineer, lead designer, deputy chief designer, technical head of rocket complex tests at the Baikonur spaceport.

1975-1981 - Secretary of the Party Committee of the 'Southern' Design Bureau.

1981-1982 - Secretary of the Party Committee of the 'Southern Machine-Building Plant' (Dnipro).

1982-1986 - First Deputy Chief Designer of the 'Southern' Design Bureau.

1986-1992 - General Director of the state enterprise 'Southern Machine-Building Plant' (one of the largest plants in the world for the production of military and aerospace technology as well as civilian products).

1990-1992 - Deputy of the Supreme Council of the I. Assembly, member of the Defense and Security Committee.

1992-1993 - Prime Minister of Ukraine, member of the National Security Council. In September 1993, he resigned.

1993-1994 - President of the Ukrainian Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

March-August 1994 - Representative of the Ukrainian people in the II Parliament, member of the interregional parliamentary group.

In July 1994, he was elected President of Ukraine. He succeeded Leonid Kravchuk in the highest state office.

1994-1996 - Co-chairman of the Constitutional Commission.

In November 1999, Kutschma was re-elected President of Ukraine. After the 2004 elections, Viktor Yushchenko became the next head of state.

After leaving large-scale politics, he heads the charitable organization 'Leonid Kutschma Presidential Foundation Ukraine'.

On February 22015, PresidentPetro Poroshenko appointed Kutschma as the official representative of Ukraine in the OSCE Trilateral Contact Group for the resolution of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

On October 2, 2018, in Minsk, Kutschma announced the end of his work in the Trilateral Contact Group.

On June 3, 2019, PresidentVolodymyr Zelenskyy reappointed the second presidentLeonid Kutschma to the Minsk negotiation group.

On July 28, 2020Leonid Kutschma withdrew from the Minsk negotiation process over Eastern Ukraine.

Awards. Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1976). Lenin Prize winner (1981). Recipient of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of Science and Technology (1993). Highest State Award of the Republic of Moldova 'Order of the Republic' (2003). Honorary Award of the Commonwealth of Independent States (2004). Books. Kutschma is the author of the books 'I Believe in the Ukrainian People' (2000), 'On the Most Important' (2001), 'Ukraine is Not Russia' (2003), 'In Its Own Way. Family. The second president of Ukraine is married. His wife Liudmyla Mykolayivna served as First Lady of the country and was the Honorary President of the National Fund for the Social Protection of Mothers and Children 'Ukraine - Children'.

His daughter Yelena Pinchuk - by profession an economist, Chairwoman of the Elena Pinchuk Foundation, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of the StarLightMedia Group. Her current husband Viktor Pinchuk - one of the richest men in Ukraine, owner of the Interpipe Corporation, a well-known philanthropist. Grandchildren - Roman and Yekaterina.
