Business and Politics. From 1990 to 1991, Poroshenko was Deputy General Director of the Union of Small Enterprises and Entrepreneurs 'Republic'. From 1991 to 1993, he was General Director of the Joint Stock Company 'Exchange House Ukraine'. From 1993 to 1998, he was General Director of LLC 'Ukrainian Industrial Investment Group' (Ukrprominvest), President of the Joint Stock Company 'Lenin Kuznetsov Arms Factory', Chairman of the Board of AKB 'Mrija', Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OJSC 'Vinnytsia Confectionery Factory'.
In 1998, the parliamentary phase of Poroshenko's life began. In the Rada of the People's Deputies of the III parliamentary convocation, he joined the SDPU(o) faction and soon became a member of the Political Council of the party. His cooperation with the 'united ESD members' lasted about two years. As Poroshenko himself said, he parted ways with this party after he ultimately realized that the main roles were not played by Leonid Kravchuk, Yevhen Marzulyk, Vasily Onopko, but by Viktor Medvedchuk and Hryhoriy Surkis. After parting with the 'ESD members', Poroshenko took the lead of the Solidarity party and the relevant parliamentary faction.
In 2002, Poroshenko became a member of the 'Our Ukraine' faction. He was included in the Presidium of the National Union 'Our Ukraine'. In the Rada of the IV convocation, he chaired the Budget Committee. After the 2006 elections, he took over as chairman of the Committee on Finance and Banking, in which he had already been a member during his first term.
Poroshenko maintained long and close ties with Viktor Yushchenko - both politically and personally. The owner of Ukrprominvest is the godfather of the third President. After the Orange Revolution, in which he was one of the most active participants, Poroshenko declared that he would follow Yushchenko's call to separate business from politics. The management of the Ukrprominvest group went (at least formally) to his father Oleksiy Poroshenko, who took the position of executive director. However, Poroshenko's opponents occasionally accused him of the separation being only in words.
One side of Poroshenko's biography is closely linked to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. From February to September 2005, he was the Secretary of this significant structure. He lost his position due to a scandal related to accusations of corruption by the presidential circle and lobbying for personal interests. It all began with a scandalous press conference by State Secretary Alexander Shynchenko. The strongest criticism (especially from former political allies of Yulia Tymoshenko) was directed at Poroshenko and his party colleagues Mykola Martynenko, Oleksandr Tretyakov, Davyd Zhvania.
Poroshenko was a member of the National Bank of Ukraine Council for several years, and from February 2007 to March 2012, he was its chairman.
In October 2009, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. In March 2010, Poroshenko was replaced in this position by Kostiantyn Hryshchenko.
On March 23, 2012, he was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine by President Viktor Yanukovych.
From December 2012 to November 2014, he was a member of the Rada of the VII convocation of Ukraine, elected to the Parliament as a self-nominated candidate in multi-mandate constituency No. 12 in Vinnytsia region. A member of the Committee on European Integration of the Rada. Non-partisan. Impartial.
In the winters of 2013-2014, he was an active participant in the Maidan. In the early presidential elections on May 25, 2014, held after the flight of President Viktor Yanukovych from the country, 54.7% of voters supported Poroshenko.
On June 7, 2014, the inauguration of Petro Poroshenko, the fifth President of Ukraine, took place.
