Alexander Vučić - President of Serbia since April 2, 2017. Prime Minister of Serbia (2014-2017). Previously served as the First Deputy Prime Minister (2012-2014), Minister of Defense (2012-2013), and Minister of Information (1998-2000). Chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party. He was the Secretary General of the Serbian Radical Party for fourteen years.

Place of Birth. Education. Born on March 5, 1970, in Belgrade, to Angelina and Anđelko Vučić. His mother - Angelina Vučić - was a journalist at the Radio-Television of Serbia. Vučić graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Belgrade. He worked as a television reporter.

Political Career. In 1993, he joined the Serbian Radical Party and was soon elected to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. In 1995, he was elected Secretary General of the Party. From 1996 to 1998, he led the Sports and Economic Center.

During the protests against President Slobodan Milošević, he drafted provisions that imposed fines on government-critical journalists and was the initiator of blocking foreign television channels. At that time, he was on the list of undesirable persons in the European Union. In 2014, Vučić, who advocated for a pro-European policy, publicly regretted his past actions.

He unsuccessfully ran for the office of Mayor of Belgrade twice (2004 and 2008).

After the snap parliamentary elections in 2014, the Progressive Party won 158 of the 250 seats in the parliament and formed a governing coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia. Vučić was elected Prime Minister of Serbia.

On April 2, 2017, he won the presidential elections in Serbia in the first round with 55%. Since April 3, 2017, mass protests against his election as president have taken place in Serbia. He assumed office as President of Serbia on May 31, 2017.
