In Novi Sad, the roof of the station collapsed, opened after renovation.
In the city of Novi Sad, Serbia, a tragedy occurred - the collapse of part of the outer roof at the railway station, resulting in at least eight deaths. This was reported by Nova TV channel on November 1.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Ivica Dačić, is already at the scene. According to him, two people were injured, and two more need to be retrieved from the rubble.
Eyewitnesses reported that during the roof collapse, many people were sitting on benches below it. Therefore, the number of affected is likely to increase.
Ambulances and dozens of rescuers arrived at the scene. The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has already left for Novi Sad.
It is worth noting that the railway station in Novi Sad was opened in July 2024 after renovation carried out by a Chinese contractor. However, at the time of the collapse, construction work was still ongoing in some parts of the station.
