According to ТСН: At the border checkpoint, representatives from Thailand and Cambodia have begun four days of negotiations aimed primarily at ending conflicts between the two countries.

The meeting is taking place in Thailand's Chonburi province, although there are discussions about possibly moving the talks to neutral territory. However, the Cambodian government released a photograph of the delegations in a simple conference room and confirmed that the meeting has indeed started. According to officials from Phnom Penh, the aim of the meeting is to "ensure a cessation of hostilities", restore stability, and "facilitate a swift return to normal life".

Escalation of the Conflict

This month, the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has escalated again, leading to the halt of a previous ceasefire. Reports indicate that over 40 people have been killed as a result of the fighting, and approximately one million individuals have been forced to leave their homes.

Prospects for Negotiations

The negotiation process is set to continue until December 27. Thailand's Defense Ministry spokesperson Surasak Kongsiri expressed hope that the meeting would yield positive results. He also noted that the success of the negotiations will depend on the sincerity of the Cambodian side—in both statements and concrete actions.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump reported phone conversations with the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia, who, according to him, agreed to cease hostilities at the border and return to the peace agreement.

It should be recalled that Thailand conducted airstrikes on Cambodian armed forces positions near the disputed border.

This situation underscores the complexity of the conflict between the states and the need for ongoing dialogue to prevent new escalations. Efforts to ease tensions from both sides could be a significant step toward stability in the region.
