Court Verdict Against Taisia Povaliy
According to Novyny.live: A Ukrainian court has handed down a 12-year prison sentence in absentia to Taisia Povaliy for collaborating with Russia and justifying its armed aggression against Ukraine. The decision was made by the Vinnytsia City Court on May 28, which found her guilty on multiple counts under the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the confiscation of Povaliy's property and the transfer of rights to her musical works to the state.
Since the Euromaidan Revolution, Povaliy has been living in Moscow. She acquired Russian citizenship in 2023. In a separate legal action in 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court ruled to seize her assets for the state. By 2025, the rights to nine of her musical compositions had been officially registered under the Ukrainian government.
Legal Framework in Ukraine
These developments underscore Ukraine's legal stance on collaboration, which carries severe penalties under national security laws. The Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor's Office continues its investigation into the case, which has sparked widespread public debate amid the ongoing war. This verdict is part of broader efforts by Ukrainian authorities to combat collaboration and treason, reflecting the state's determination to enforce laws protecting national sovereignty. Such cases remain highly sensitive and widely discussed in Ukrainian society, highlighting the critical importance of accountability during wartime.
