Ex-European golfers warned players' wives about insults at the Ryder Cup.
According to The Sun: Former European Ryder Cup participant Andrew Coltart urged players' wives to avoid watching matches at Bethpage Black to protect themselves from harsh criticism.
Coltart was a member of the European team in 1999, which lost in the famous 'Battle of Brookline' with a score of 14 ½ – 13 ½ to the USA.

The former player expressed concern for the players' families due to the loud atmosphere in New York that awaits them next week.
The Scot, who lost his only Ryder Cup match to Tiger Woods, advised partners and parents to stay home during matches when he played in the GB & Ireland cup against Europe in January.
“My wife didn’t receive insults for staying home, as she had just given birth to our first baby. But other wives and girlfriends received insults from the crowd.”
“These were just the usual offensive words that, unfortunately, you can expect from a group of men who have had too much to drink. So at Bethpage Black, I suggested that maybe it’s better to stay in a safe room.”
“I understand this is not what they want, as they want to support their husbands or sons.”

Coltart believes the crowd can significantly affect the game in New York.
“I am absolutely confident that no one will break. Everyone will be able to handle this in one way or another.”
Nervous Atmosphere
“There’s hope that no one will fall for the crowd's provocations. This 13th player will be very aggressive. American fans are full of energy.”
“It will be a volcano, where American fans will unleash everything they have.”
“They may specifically target Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm because of their move to LIV, as both are very emotional players.”
“Bob McIntyre responded to criticism during the BMW Championship when he pointed at someone. When you have the fighting spirit, it’s hard to hold back.”
Watch every moment of the Ryder Cup live on Sky Sports and NOW from Friday, September 26. It will be unforgettable golf.
The Ryder Cup events are always filled with tension and emotions, as the competition between Europe and the USA remains one of the grandest events in the golfing world. Considering the direct presence of fans, Coltart's thoughts on protecting players' families may become relevant if the atmosphere in New York becomes too tense. After all, fans always contribute to this atmosphere, as their support is crucial for players.
