British athlete Hodgkinson sparked outrage on TikTok: joke about the annoying voices of Americans.
According to The Sun: Kelly Hodgkinson sparked outrage among track and field fans in the U.S. with a TikTok video where she mentioned the 'annoying' American voices.
The star of the Great Britain team won a bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships held in Tokyo this month.
Kelly Hodgkinson commented on Americans in her recent TikTok post APThis victory is yet another success on the international stage, as she previously won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
However, Hodgkinson caught attention with her comments about Americans.
In one of her recent TikTok posts, the 23-year-old athlete was sitting in a restaurant with a drink, listening to music through headphones.
The caption of the video read: “When there are Americans in the restaurant.”
In the background, a phrase played: “Now I want to relax and enjoy the evening when suddenly I hear that annoying, unbearable voice.”
Hodgkinson added: “They really are the loudest in the room [emoji crying with laughter].”
She was apparently joking, but received a wave of comments from viewers likely living in the U.S.
Among those who reacted was American sprinter Masai Russell, who wrote: “Hey, don’t overdo it.”
Another TikTok user remarked: “Please, please, to your American fans.”
Another asked: “WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!?”
Other users also noted Hodgkinson's bronze medal in Japan.
She was a favorite for the gold, but finished only in third place, losing to Lilian Odira from Kenya and her compatriot Georgia Hunter Bell.
One critic in a TikTok post comment wrote: “Too busy making a video to take first place.”
Another user added: “Third place [emoji blushing].”
Hodgkinson, responding to Masai Russell's words, said of Americans: “You are the funniest.”

The situation with Hodgkinson's comments reflects the importance of athletes' responses to public statements. She has become the subject of attention not only for her achievements in sports but also for her activity on social media, highlighting the modern trend of engaging the audience through unconventional formats of communication.
While her joking comment sparked controversy, it is hard not to agree that such situations add liveliness to the sports context and also open new aspects of interaction between viewers and athletes.
