According to Novyny.live: The mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, attended the Nordic-Ukrainian Municipal Partnership Forum held in Lviv. During the event, he stressed the urgent need for collaboration between Ukrainian frontline communities and European municipalities. Terekhov highlighted that such cooperation is essential to strengthen ties and foster mutual support between cities.
Representatives from Sweden and Norway expressed their readiness to work with Ukrainian communities, signaling a strong interest in advancing international relations. The Kharkiv mayor also outlined the city’s preparations for the upcoming winter. As part of these efforts, Kharkiv is installing cogeneration equipment, modular boiler houses, and drilling new wells to improve the city’s energy efficiency.
Social Initiatives and International Cooperation
Terekhov turned to social concerns, proposing a strategy to support elderly residents.
“We are not just looking for aid—we are looking for friends. We need direct horizontal links between municipalities,”he stated. The mayor further emphasized that
“only through such shared responsibility and strong city-to-city friendships can we protect our common future and secure a genuine, just, and long-lasting peace.”
This forum served as a key platform for discussing the pressing issues Ukrainian communities face, especially amid the war. Partnering with European cities can not only boost energy efficiency but also provide social support for vulnerable groups. With growing challenges like climate change and economic hardship, building international ties is vital for the stability and development of Ukrainian cities.
