Tesco raises prices on popular lunch sets: how costs will change.
According to The Sun: The beloved snack from TESCO has become a bit more expensive for customers today, sparking a wave of outrage. The supermarket increased the price of lunch by 25 pence, and prices for the Premium offer have also changed. This comes after a decade-long pause in price hikes across the chain.
The chain raised its prices in October 2022 after a decade-long hiatus.
The Sun sensationally revealed that TESCO intended to raise prices even earlier, but for loyalty card holders, the losses will amount to £3.85 instead of the usual £3.60. Those without a card will pay an even higher amount - £4.25. The premium lunch offer has also not escaped changes, costing £5.50 or £6 depending on the availability of Clubcard.
The announcement of price increases came after leaked photos of price tags with new prices. Now customers are outraged and ready to boycott such changes, expressing their dissatisfaction on social media. Umberto from Reddit.com even suggests getting rid of the lunch offer if the chain continues to increase prices.
Price increases in supermarkets await everyone
Not only are snack prices at TESCO rising, but the overall cost of products in supermarkets is increasing. The rise in prices is due to increased costs that have impacted the inflation index. Families have been warned about rising food costs this year, as food inflation is expected to reach 6% by the end of 2025. The latest inflation rise, particularly due to meat and tea, has already reached 4% in July, after the sixth consecutive month.
Retailers justify price increases by rising wage costs due to increased employer national insurance contributions.
