Problem with Position Transfer during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix

According to The Sun: Lewis Hamilton apologized to Charles Leclerc for not giving him eighth place during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The driver from Monaco let Hamilton pass seven laps before the end, so he could compete with other drivers on new tires.

The agreement was that Hamilton would give Leclerc the position if he was unable to overtake others. However, the British driver failed to slow down and finished the race ahead of Leclerc.

“First of all... I was obviously faster [at that moment in the race], but Charles was generous to let me through,” Hamilton noted.

He added: “At the end, I got the message very late and I was focused on the car in front of me, although the likelihood of overtaking was minimal.”

“It was just a bad judgment on my part. I will apologize to Charles. In the end, it's just eighth and ninth place,” he said.

Understanding Between Drivers

Leclerc did not seem particularly upset about the incident, as it was a fight for eighth and ninth place. He questioned whether Hamilton followed team rules.

“Honestly, for P8 or P9, it will not be a big topic of discussion. It's not that important to me,” he said.

Leclerc also noted: “There are rules that we know we have to work with. Maybe today those rules were not followed.”

He hopes that in the future, if drivers are fighting for higher positions, the teams will be able to cooperate differently.

This incident highlights the importance of teamwork and honoring agreements during races. Drivers should be able to rely on each other, especially in tense situations. Despite the direct impact on race results, both drivers showed a willingness for constructive dialogue and understanding, which could be an important factor in future competitions.
