Zelensky and Trump negotiate an agreement on natural resources

Ukraine and the USA are in the final stages of negotiations for an agreement under which the United States will have the right to a share of revenues from Ukraine's natural resources. President Trump has announced that President Zelensky may visit the White House to sign this agreement. According to The New York Times, the agreement is approaching its final stage. Olga Stefanishyna also confirmed that both teams are at the concluding stages of negotiations regarding the mineral agreement.

The latest version of the agreement contains more favorable conditions for Ukraine than previous drafts. However, it does not provide for the security that Ukraine had hoped for in the context of the fight against the Russian invasion. Additionally, the agreement does not impose an obligation on Ukraine to provide the USA with 500 billion dollars in revenue from natural resources.

The agreement stipulates that Ukraine will forgo half of its revenues from the future monetization of natural resources. These funds will be directed to a fund in which the USA will have the greatest financial interest. The size of the USA's share in this fund will be determined by American legislation.

According to the new draft agreement, revenues will be reinvested in Ukraine, and a fund will be established to attract additional investments. Under this draft, the USA also commits to support Ukraine's economic development in the long term. However, the White House noted that the agreement does not include guarantees of future assistance for the war and does not obligate American personnel in the region.

Putin Interested in Ukraine's Natural Resources

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the reserves of rare earth minerals in Russia are significantly larger than in Ukraine and can be used in high-tech production. He emphasized that Russia is ready to cooperate with American companies for the extraction of these minerals, even in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia.
