Luke Littler's problems on the playing field

According to The Sun: Luke Littler looks 'vulnerable' on the stage in recent weeks, according to former player Met Edgar.

The world number 2 suffered an 11-7 defeat to Michael van Gerwen in the final of the World Series of Darts, where the Dutchman claimed his sixth title.

Littler also suffered a surprising 7-4 defeat in the semifinals of the Hungarian Darts Trophy, missing 16 darts at doubles and having an average game of only 92.79.

Edgar believes that Littler relies too heavily on big finishes instead of managing the game effectively, leading to failures, especially in the match against the three-time world champion.

“It was almost an impossible task, but he fell at that hurdle quite early. It may sound strange to someone who is so dominant in a sport like Luke, but does he ever feel vulnerable?”
“He needs to hit a big finish like 120 in the opening game. It looks like a crucial moment he needs to realize, and if not, he looks quite vulnerable.”

Former player Andy Cornwall believes that Littler is too focused on the stage, losing his usual rhythm.

“I looked at this and thought that he is focusing too much. This is not his usual game; he usually laughs and is confident that he will hit everything.”
“But let’s not forget about Michael van Gerwen.”

Littler has already won the World Championship, UK Open, and Matchplay titles, finishing an impressive 2025 year. He will return to action this Saturday at the Swiss Darts Trophy in Basel on the Euro Tour.

Now Littler faces challenging tasks, but his past achievements suggest that he can regain his strength. The next tournament could be an important step in restoring his confidence and level of play.
