Thomas Tuchel excludes Jude Bellingham from the England national team: what happened.
Sharp changes in the England national team from Thomas Tuchel
According to The Sun: Thomas Tuchel made an unexpected decision that could significantly impact his career as the coach of the England national team.
Coaches often state at press conferences that no player can feel secure, but usually, it's just words.
He excluded Jude Bellingham from the latest squad of the Three Lions GettyGareth Southgate has also made risky decisions during his tenure, such as ending Wayne Rooney's career with the national team. But Tuchel has shown that he disregards authority by excluding a talented player who saved England at Euro 2024.
Jude Bellingham shouted 'Who else?' after his overhead kick leveled the score in the match against Slovakia in the round of 16.
Now the question arises, who else might be excluded from Tuchel's new squad. It is known that no player feels safe, and this is very important ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Phil Foden and Jack Grealish also did not make the final squad for the friendly match against Wales next Thursday, as well as for the World Cup qualifying match in Latvia.
Just on Wednesday, Bellingham was recognized as the English Player of the Year for the past season by fans. Despite having recently recovered from shoulder surgery and having played only four matches, one of them starting for Real, it's strange that he was not included in the squad, even though Tuchel insisted on wanting to keep the same squad that performed impressively with a 5-0 victory in Serbia last month.
“Of course, we will see Bellingham in the England team again. But it would be naive to think that everything is fine between the player and the coach,”Tuchel noted.
Despite Tuchel's apologies, Bellingham has undoubtedly been disappointed by the coach's comments during an interview on talkSPORT, in which he characterized some of his actions on the field as 'disgusting'.
This distances Bellingham from the press, as he rarely communicates with journalists, only in brief two-minute interviews after matches. He has 43 caps for the national team, but despite his status, he has not shared many thoughts at press conferences.
Tuchel also emphasized that it's not just about Bellingham, Foden, and Grealish when the squad selection was being made. He also spoke with Adam Wharton, Trevoh Chalobah, and Curtis Jones. When asked about Kyle Walker, who has played 96 matches for the national team, Tuchel replied briefly: 'no'. So, it is likely the end of Walker's career with the national team.
Tuchel emphasized that he would lose trust if he made many changes to a squad that performed well in Belgrade.
“Belgrade was on a completely different level. Maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe it was a mix of group. Who knows? It was the best camp my team had, the best performance, and a great result,”he said.
Tuchel explained:
“Imagine if I later left four players out and said: 'Now I'm bringing A, B, C, and D, and you four are not included.' What would you think as a player?”
The reason for excluding such players is not entirely clear at first glance; however, Tuchel always emphasizes his strategy of squad selection, highlighting his willingness to take risks for maximum result achievement. This decision could be a successful step forward if the new squad shows its strength in the upcoming matches. Time will tell whether Tuchel can assemble a team that will compete on the world stage.
