Manchester United is looking for a replacement for Amorim: who is on the shortlist

According to The Sun: Coaches Oliver Glasner, Fabian Hurzeler, and Andoni Iraola could be successors to Ruben Amorim if he is dismissed from his role as head of Manchester United.

Amorim suffered his 17th defeat in the Premier League from 33 games in charge, losing to Brentford on Saturday. His team has already lost three matches in the first six rounds of this season.

Although Amorim has the club's support, Manchester United is closely monitoring possible candidates for his position amid dissatisfaction with the team's results.

Sources within the club assure that there is currently no specific successor for Amorim, but acknowledge that rumors about his future are actively being discussed.

Erik ten Hag was dismissed after four defeats in the first nine matches of last season, but club management is more invested in Amorim, who was the first appointment under joint owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Manchester United has previously focused on managers with Premier League experience, so potential candidates may also meet this requirement.

Replacement Candidates

Glasner led Crystal Palace to their first trophy in the FA Cup last season and is currently one of the few teams unbeaten in the league.

Iraola took charge of Bournemouth two years ago and finished ninth last season.

Hurzeler, who replaced Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton at the start of last season, finished the last season in eighth place.

Crystal Palace has yet to agree a new contract with Glasner, as his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Amorim Confident in His Role

Amorim signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with United when he was appointed to replace Ten Hag last November, but the club finished last season in 15th place — their worst result since 1974.

Manchester United invested £256.82 million in six new players under Amorim, but after the latest defeat, the team has dropped to 14th place.

Sunderland will visit Old Trafford next week before the international break, while United will continue their program with a match against Liverpool at Anfield on October 19.

United has not won in their last ten matches at Anfield and has not won there since January 2016.

When asked if he can change the situation at United, Amorim replied:

“I am always confident because I know what to do.”

“When you lose, you go back to the same place and fight for a win, which can help create momentum.”

Thus, the situation at Manchester United leaves many questions. On one hand, Ruben Amorim has the management's support, while on the other, the team's results raise concerns. In the coming weeks, the club may take decisive steps considering the selected candidates who have experience in the Premier League. This could be a critical moment in the development of a team striving to return to the top positions in the table.
