Today, August 19, the bodies of 1,000 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine. This was reported by FREEДОМ referring to data from the Coordination Headquarters for Handling Prisoners of War.
It is noted that among the repatriated are five bodies of Ukrainian servicemen who died in Russian captivity. They were on the lists of "severely wounded and seriously ill" prisoners for exchange according to the agreements in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations."The Russian side continues to prolong the time and does not fulfill its obligations. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all severely ill and injured prisoners and is fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens," noted the Coordination Headquarters.
Among the returned dead are defenders from the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk fronts. As previously reported, on July 17, the bodies of another 1,000 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine. It is worth noting that there have been cases when, along with the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers, the Russian Federation transferred the bodies of Russian soldiers to Ukraine. This news reports on the return of the bodies of 1,000 fallen soldiers to Ukraine, five of whom died in Russian captivity. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all severely ill and injured prisoners, as well as fighting for the return of all Ukrainian citizens."In the near future, investigators from law enforcement agencies together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will conduct all necessary examinations and identification of the repatriated bodies," added the Coordination Headquarters.
