TNT Sports to implement heart monitoring in rugby: how it will work.
New technology for rugby fans from TNT SPORTS
According to The Sun: TNT SPORTS is negotiating to introduce an impressive feature that will allow fans to get closer to rugby players.
The broadcaster plans to implement a system that will display players' heart rate changes during matches.
This technology will show how a player's heart rate changes at different moments of the game, especially before a crucial kick or in a tough position.
The Times reports that negotiations are ongoing between TNT Sports, World Rugby, Prem Rugby, and player groups.
However, there are challenges regarding ensuring players' comfort in light of the publication of their personal medical data.
“We absolutely want to implement this in our production.”
According to Warner Bros Discovery Executive Vice President Scott Young, this technology will allow viewers to feel more excitement from matches.
“Insights into the stamina and athleticism of professional rugby players are not really seen on television; it is more noticeable when you are in the stands.”
He also emphasized that it is important to handle players' personal data carefully to avoid impacting their performance.
“These data are meant to highlight what is beyond human capabilities.”Getty
Approval from World Rugby is also needed, as changes may affect player equipment. However, it has been reported that Prem Rugby supports this initiative, which could attract more fans to the sport.
TNT Sports is already using similar technology in cycling coverage and it is likely to become a stimulus for other sports in the future.
